Farmer’s Market Loot: 4.5.23

Strawberries…And more strawberries. Yes, the old purple cauliflower caught my eye yet again at the market but I didn’t possess the cajones to pull the trigger. Someday…At any rate…Not much else was available. Still lots of citrus. By this time last year we had cherries. The crap weather has extended the season by a country mile. Although I did see one farm (the most expensive one) have a wait list out for cherries. Ha. Is this what it’s come to? If so, what will the future bring? Fruit groupies? A total monopoly by Ticketmaster along with the cutthroat scalping industry that accompanies it?

At this point I may just do a strawberry section on the seasonal menu until stone fruit arrives. I did a tiki section a few months back to warm reviews. The real chingons liked them all but rum is the least loved spirit by the average punter. Vodka is still king but a close second is tequila and mezcal.

Sidebar: I just made a breakfast consisting of fresh strawberries, l-reuteri yogurt (homemade), a half milk/half coconut milk chia pudding I made on Monday, and a light sprinkle of my dad’s Vermont maple syrup.

The chia pudding is a new obsession because I love pudding but hate making it. The chia form is real easy.

Chia Pudding

2 T chia seeds

1 tsp. Sweetener

1/2 cup milk

Small pinch salt

Anyway, it’s easy.

I’m thinking about tamarind and strawberries. Love the tamarind but the muddy brown color isn’t so sexy. There’s no way to avoid it unless it’s clarified in a punch and I’m not sure I want to travel down that road.

Cauliflower cocktail google search produces a video from GQ entitiled “Would you drink a cauliflower cocktail?” And a search in the Punch Drink recipe aisle produces one relevant hit. This.
