I’m going to figure out how to put this on the menu. No silly, not the image you see above (although that would be amazing) but rather a form of what I put down my gullet last night as an experiment to quell my aching throat. First off, yes, it worked. Second, it regrettably wasn’t as powerful as something from the 19th century. Boy, they really did whatever they wanted back then. For the low price of just $.10 you could go around quaffing a truly robust concoction. It’s no wonder the temperance movement became such a thing and eventually became prohibition. I mean, you can’t just sell this stuff in stores…
Anyway, my own version of Daddy’s cough syrup went like this:
Honey
Bourbon
Dashes of Bitters
No measurements but if I had a gun to my head I’d guess it would be about 1 oz. of bourbon to 1 oz. of honey. I just mixed this up with a spoon which took a couple of minutes, then down the hatch. Instantly made my sore throat go away. I should probably bottle this and call it Daddy’s Cough Syrup which we all know is a long running joke for all fathers, grandfathers out there.
I’m also thinking of doing it as a cocktail. I mean, the penicillin was so remarkable in this sense. I racking my brain to think of something similar. Maybe include some type of seasonal herb? I don’t know. I’m on the mend but still tired from the move and life in general. I thought it was supposed to get easier when you got older? It only seems like I’ve got more on my plate than ever before.
