On the Comeback Trail

“They” say it takes about six months to fully acclimate to a move. I never really got the gist of that one until now. It’s been almost two months in now and I’m still trying to grasp it all but I’ve moved a lot since I came to LA. Silver Lake – Marina del Rey – Long Beach – Redondo Beach – Santa Monica – Brentwood Ish- Hancock Park. Yeesh. That’s a lot in just eight years. Today was the first time I woke in the morning and felt somewhat normal. The blog has been god awful for a week or so. My energy levels have been a little low. I figured this to be lack of sunlight and I was right. I’m usually out for at least an hour a day but with a lot of the building stuff I haven’t been able to catch as many rays. Yesterday I got in the sun for a good two and a half hours and boy did it give me a well deserved boost of energy as well as a nice deep sleep. Yes, vitamin D is crucial to your sleep cycle. Science.

News Flash: I love conspiracy theories. I don’t believe in any of them I read, but I do so enjoy how outrageous some of them are. Antarctica seems to be a good source for a lot of wild tales. Shout out to my buddy, the great Jim (Paco) who I always raz a bit about Antarctica because he’s been there over a dozen times.

One of my favorite big conspiracy theories revolves around the solar system Aldebaran which is 65 lightyears away. To put this in perspective, the closest solar system in our galaxy is called Proxima Centauri and that one is a little more than four light years away. If you’re not a sci-fi nerd this probably means nothing. Proxima Centauri is a red dwarf, very faint, and only 12.5% the mass of our own sun. There is a possible liveable planet revolving around Proxima Centauri called Proxima B. Terrible name by the way. With our current technology, in order to travel 4 light years, a distance of 40,208,000,000,000 km it would take 6,300 years. Yeah. That’s a long time. 40 trillion kilometers, dude.

So to go, 65 light years, well. That would take so much longer. How much longer you ask? Well, to go 50 light years with our current technology, some say it would take about 100,000 years.

Aldebaran is a red giant 44 times the size of our own sun. The largest and brightest in the Taurus Constellation. It is literally the bull’s eye. The conspiracy theory claims that two planets revolving around this massive star are habitable and this is where any number of citizens of Earth, including Hitler, have jettisoned to. Yup. Anyway, even if it were possible to travel that distance, there would be no way to actually live on the exoplanets close to Aldebaran because the surface heat is calculated to be around 1,227° Celsius or 2,330° Fahrenheit. For reference, a number of metals, such as gold, copper, and iron melt below that temperature. Pretty hot there. Not saying it’s impossible, but if you’re going to come up with a wild theory then maybe choose a planet that’s a little cooler.

That’s all for now, there will be some new cocktails coming soon. I have to go to Home Depot and pick up some toilet seats and a medicine cabinet.
