New Cocktail: Robin Goodfellow

I am very, very far behind my cocktail posts. So far behind, in fact, that whole seasons have gone by while “new” cocktails are now extinct. Whoopsidaisy. I have felt not so enthusiastic about the blog as of late. Call it a combination of sleep deprivation, finishing a book, working on yet another book, attempting to read a little more, the joy and misery of having children, and of course, a shit load of new cocktails for citrus season over at the Canyon. Creating new cocktails means tasting new cocktails which can be both fun and exhausting. Believe it or not, I don’t always want to drink. I would say about six out of the seven days of the week I am not in the mood but duty does call and so do weird ideas.

At any rate, I never posted this baby which ended up being one of my favorites.

In my opinion this one lands in the pantheon of tiki cocktails up there with the painkiller and mai tai. Am I floating my own boat? Try it out and get back to me.

Robin Goodfellow

1 oz. RC Rum Blend

1 oz. Fresh Lime Juice

.5 oz. Leche de Tran

.5 oz. Fresh Orange Juice

.5 oz. Montenegro

.5 oz. Passionfruit Syrup

.5 oz. RC Passionfruit Liqueur.

Shake, strain into rocks glass with BFR. Give a spritz or two or three of blackstrap rum.

The biggest problem with this cocktail, for the common punter, is the availability of the ingredients. For instance, the RC passionfruit liqueur is going to be better than the stuff you buy at the local liquor store. We make it with the dregs leftover from fresh passionfruit syrup which is also something not available to the masses. We’re lucky enough to have farmers deliver fresh passionfruit to us throughout most of the year. Most bars just buy the frozen puree which is still great just not the same.

The RC Rum Blend changes periodically. Right now it is 2 cups Planteray Dark, .5 cups Paranubes, and .25 cups Hamilton Pot Still Black. Barbados, Oaxaca, Jamaica.

Leche de Tran is one can of Coco Lopez coconut cream and one can of condensed milk.

Robin Goodfellow, also known as Puck or the Puck is of the hobgoblin strain of faerie. He has appeared in such works as Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Nights Dream one of old Bill’s two originals, yes you heard that correctly, even he borrowed, and Gaiman’s version of the same play in The Sandman. If you haven’t heard the news, Gaiman has been cancelled for eternity.
